The large packaging for the biggest packs is made from polyester and polyethylene. The company is actively working towards changing this packaging once the tea bag material switch is completed and the outer wrap on their tea boxes is updated, both of which involve a higher overall volume of plastic. Currently, this packaging is not recyclable and should be disposed of in the refuse bin.

The Tea Bags:

The tea bag material is composed of 75% natural-based fibres, which include a mix of wood pulp and either abaca (a kind of banana plant) or rayon (also made from wood pulp). The remaining 25% is an oil-based plastic sealing material called polypropylene. However, the company is diligently working on a transition to a renewable, plant-based, industrially compostable bioplastic known as Polylactic Acid (PLA), derived from cornstarch. At present, these tea bags should be placed in the refuse bin. After the switch to PLA, they will be suitable for kerbside composting bins (garden waste or food waste), though they are not suitable for home compost heaps as these do not reach the necessary temperatures for breakdown.
